A 3 day Bwindi gorilla safari takes you on a trekking adventure in the impenetrable Bwindi forest– home to almost half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world and the reason the majority of tourists visit Uganda. The tour also features visits to the infamous Batwa pygmies and also Lake Bunyonyi– the second deepest lake in Africa after Tanganyika. Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Forest from Kampala
Wake up for an early breakfast, meet and greet with your driver guide and then transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. The road trip takes you about 8-9 hours to get to Bwindi forest. Along the way enjoy the intriguing landscape beauty of the Pearl of Africa in the western region. You will have lunch en route in Mbarara at Agip Motel and later proceed with the journey to Bwindi Forest National Park arriving in the evening. Check-in for dinner and overnight stay at Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge- Budget, Chameleon Hill Lodge – Luxury or Gorilla Mist Camp – Midrange.
Day2: Gorilla trekking & Batwa pygymies
Today after a delicious early morning breakfast, our driver will transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing about the gorilla trekking experience in the Bwindi forest. You will be divided into groups of 8 people and assigned a ranger guide. Later at 8 am, you transfer to the starting point to begin the trek. Be prepared for thick undergrowth and creepers while trekking for the habituated gorilla families. Upon locating a gorilla family, you are permitted to spend one hour in their midst. Feel free to take photos as you learn more about their fascinating behaviors and lifestyles.
Enjoy your packed lunch in the wild before trekking to the pickup point where you will be transferred back to the lodge or camp. If you are still feeling strong, you can go for a Batwa community visit where you will get a chance to interact and learn more about this pygmy tribe that has lived in the forest for decades.
After the visit return to the lodge, check out and prepare for transfer to Lake Bunyonyi- a popular lake for relaxation and Island boat ride explorations. Arrive in the evening and check in at Bird Nest Bunyonyi-Luxury/ Crater Bay Cottages/ Bunyonyi Rock Resort.
Day 3: Traditional Canoe ride at Lake Bunyonyi
Enjoy a delicious breakfast and delight in a rewarding canoe ride on the picturesque Lake Bunyonyi. The boat ride allows you to explore the intriguing islands including the legendary Punishment Island. You will also interact with the local people as you encounter numerous small birds.
Later return to the lodge, check out and begin your departure back to Kampala. Enjoy an en-route lunch at Igongo Culture Centre with a stopover at the Uganda equator. Then proceed with the journey, arriving in Kampala in the evening, your driver guide drops you at your hotel of residence or at Entebbe International Airport to catch up with your next flight back home.
