Queen Elizabeth National Park was founded in 1952 as Kazinga National Park and later renamed in 1954 to commemorate the Queen’s visit. The park spans the districts of Kamwenge, Rukungiri, Kasese & Rukungiri about 400 km by road southwest of Kampala city. Adjoined by Kyambura Gorge, Kibale Forest and Kigezi Game Reserve- this park has alot to offer for both nature and wildlife enthusiasts.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to 600 bird species and up to 95 mammal species top of the list being Buffaloes, lions, Elephants, spotted hyenas, Uganda kobs, Nile crocodiles, giant forest hogs, warthog, waterbuck, hippos, leopard to mention but a few which you may encounter on game drives and boat cruise along the Kazinga channel– a narrow water channel that connects Lake Edward & George.

The 100m deep & 1km long Kyambura Gorge offers unique opportunities to encounter a variety of birds & primate species including chimpanzees, baboons, vervet monkeys, red colobus, red tailed monkeys among other you will encounter during treks. You should visit the Ishash sector for a chance to spot the infamous tree-climbing lions during a game drive or transfer to the next park.
