Bwindi National Park is one of the most popular national parks in Uganda renowned as the home of the mountain gorillas. Situated along the DR Congo border strategically on the edge of the Albertine rift, Bwindi National Park comprises of both montane and lowland forest only penetrated by foot.
A UNESCO-designated World Heritage site, the impenetrable forest is home to 459 mountain gorillas which is half the population of the last remaining mountain gorillas in the world. The park is a habitat for other species which include up to 350 bird species, 120 mammal species, 27 species of frog, and chameleons among others which ypu can easily encounter during a gorilla trekking or birding adventure through the forest.
Gorilla Trekking In Bwindi National Park
Bwindi National Park offers the best gorilla trekking adventures in Uganda allowing visitors to access up to 4 tracking regions (Ruhija, Buhoma, Rushaga & Nkuringo) where 14 gorilla groups reside. To access Bwindi forest, you will need to purchase a gorilla permit through UWA (Uganda Wildlife Authority), a tour operator or a Uganda car rental agency. The price of a Uganda gorilla permit is US$ 800 per person for foreign non-residents, US$ 700 for foreign residents and UGX 300,000 for East African citizens.
