The park is located in the southwestern region of the country and covers districts of Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi and Rukungiri. This is the most visited park in Uganda is approximately 400km from Kampala capital city. The park is known for its medley of wonders being a home to various primates like the chimps at the Kyambura gorge, herds of elephants, cape buffaloes, lions and leopards lingering in the Mweya peninsular which is located close to Lake Edward and George. Visitors to this National park have variety of things to do and enjoy making worth their visit. The Katwe salt mines are close to the huge volcanic explosion crater and many people get time to visit this site for study purposes, tourism and so many more advantages. To add on the wonders of this land are the bat caves which are located at the Maramagambo forest that is part of this National Park.
There are a number of activities done at the park including numerous game drives along the Kasenyi tracks, boat cruise along the Kazinga channel, bird watching, nature walks, camp fires and so much more.
There are a number of ways to reach the park regardless of your starting point but today we are looking at starting your journey from Kampala or Entebbe Airport. The shortest route to Queen Elizabeth National Park is taking on the route through Mityana road, then through Mubende district, kibale and down to the park. This takes approximately 5-6hrs yet other routes may take close to 8 hrs on the road. To add more to this, is that these route is very convenient for vehicles as the roads are in perfect condition. Therefore, using the Mityana road is a sure deal to reach Queen Elizabeth National Park and in time. The route is very safe since it being used by other road users heading to Fort portal , Hoima, Kasese thus making life for those on self drive safaris very easy and secure being on a popular route that is used by a big number of road users.
